Applications
The heartwood of Okan wood varies from yellow to golden brown, with an olive green hue that turns reddish brown under the influence of light. The growth ring boundaries are clearly distinguishable by the dark color on the end surface. The light pink sapwood has a width of 50-75 mm. Okan is classified as quality class category 3/Tropical/NEN 5493 and falls under strength class D40 (NEN 5493; 2010).
Thanks to the excellent durability of Okan wood, it is ideal for outdoor applications, especially hydraulic engineering objects such as lock gates, sheet piling, piles, harbor works and bridge substructure. It can also be used where strength and durability are required, such as sleepers, heavy structures and industrial floors. Because of its beautiful warm color, Okan wood is also perfect for decorative turned items. In Great Britain, Okan wood is even used as a replacement for Demera green heart.
