Douglas Wood

Douglas wood is a rustic softwood known for its beautiful coarse wood grain and natural strength. With excellent availability, this European wood is frequently used for various outdoor projects. Due to its favorable strength properties and wide choice of dimensions, Douglas wood is suitable for many applications. In construction it is used for both interior and exterior work, floors, restoration work, sheet piling, floating windows, pergolas and fences. The heavy beam wood is used, among other things, for load-bearing structures. In addition, wood from Western Europe is used for all kinds of posts.

Favorable price-quality ratio

Douglas wood usually has a light yellow-brown color that changes over time to a beautiful orangey yellow-brown shade, characteristic of this type of wood. Wood from fast-growing and relatively young trees may be more reddish in color. Due to the resin present in the wood, greasy spots or stripes may sometimes be visible on the planed surface.

Thanks to its favorable price-quality ratio, Douglas wood is an excellent choice for garden wood, for example. It combines the yellow-brown color with a beautiful flame pattern and a warm appearance. However, with a durability class of 3-4 for heartwood in ground contact, it is important to look carefully at the application of the wood.

Editability

Douglas wood is versatile but challenging to work with hand tools. Machining, on the other hand, poses few problems, provided sharp tools are used. When machining by hand, keep tools sharp and pay attention to cutting angles and cutting directions to minimize splintering. Machining offers greater convenience, as long as the blades are sharp. By paying attention to workability and the use of sharp tools, craftsmen and woodworkers can make the most of the properties of Douglas wood.

We import this beautiful type of wood from Europe. Due to our direct contacts with the sawmills, the various quality requirements and sizes can be produced. Production in the roundwood sawmill in Krimpen guarantees fast delivery times. The classification is made according to the French CTBA standard. In addition to edging, Boogaerdt Hout also has the option of freshly sawn or construction wood. This can be sawn to desired specification per plate or per trunk.
