Abachi, also known as Ayous, is a lightweight wood with a yellow color and a characteristic odor. The heartwood is whitish to creamy yellow when fresh and turns golden yellow when exposed to light. There is no clear distinction between the heartwood and sapwood. The grain of Abachi can be moderate to coarse. This wood, with its good thermal conductivity, is frequently used in sauna construction, the furniture industry, for interior furniture components, wall and ceiling paneling, and in model making for metal foundries. Due to its light weight, it is also used as a raw material in yacht building.

Yes, the wood is very light and can be sawn, planed, milled, and glued very well. However, it is important to use very sharp tools to achieve a smooth surface. Abachi's excellent workability makes it suitable for detailed work and fine finishes.
