Light weight and easy to work with
Abachi, also known as Ayous, is a lightweight wood with a yellow color and a characteristic smell. The heartwood is fresh whitish to creamy yellow and turns a golden yellow color when exposed to light. There is no clear distinction between heartwood and sapwood. The grain of Abachi can be moderate to coarse. This wood with good heat-conducting properties is frequently used in sauna construction, the furniture industry, for interior parts of furniture, wall and ceiling paneling, and in model making for metal foundries. Due to its low weight, it is also used as a raw material in yacht building. Abachi is easy to machine with both hand and machine tools. However, sharp tools are necessary to obtain a smooth surface. Abachi is widely used in situations where a light and easy-to-work type of wood is required, without strict requirements in terms of durability or strength. It is used, for example, in the furniture industry for interior parts of furniture, wall and ceiling panelling, model making for metal foundries, organ and piano construction, bodywork construction, and in caravans. It is also widely used for plywood, furniture board, frames, doors, broom handles and sauna benches.
